Dobot Programming & Communication

Project type

Dobot Lab

Date

April 2025 - May 2025

Location

Penn State University

The final project in my mechanical engineering systems lab involved the use Dobots to achieve different objectives. Over the course of a few weeks, my partners and I learned how to program the Dobot to recognize the color of objects, recognize the shape of objects, pick up and move objects to a different location, interact with an IR sensor, and communicate with another Dobot to execute more complex tasks. For the final assignment, my team had one Dobot play tic-tac-toe with a person. This required the Dobot to be able to recognize the color of the block it was picking up and place it in an empty space on the board that was not already occupied. After finishing the game, the first Dobot sends a signal to the second Dobot, which clears the board of all red blocks. The most troublesome aspect of the project was troubleshooting; there were issues with getting the Dobot to recognize that a space on the board was occupied as well as some issues with robot-to-robot communication. My abilities to diagnose problems and fix them in an efficient manner as well as block programming have seen significant improvement due to this project.
